What is Matcha?
Matcha is a finely ground Green Tea powder made from the young and nutrient rich leaves of the green tea plant. Drinking matcha can be like drinking 10 cups of regular green tea for its nutrient value…POW! That’s why we call it the ‘King of Green Tea’.
What does it look like?
Our Matcha is high quality ceremonial grade which means it is made from the youngest tea leaves, with the stems and veins entirely removed. The powder is soft and silky and this high quality Matcha is a bright and vibrant green colour. When whisked, it is rich, vivacious and frothy.
What does it taste like?
-Vegetal, umami, fresh, grassy, smooth
The most common way to drink Matcha in the UK is in latte form. This will taste milky, smooth, and sweet depending on what milk you use. We love using it in baking too…. Which obviously tastes delicious!!
Where does it come from?
Our Matcha is sourced from Nishio, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Nishio, is blessed with fertile soil, fresh water, perfect elevation and ideal weather, it's one of the most ideal region for Matcha cultivation and production.
How is it made?
Matcha is made unlike any other tea. Our ceremonial matcha green tea is shade grown for 21 days in April. This shading cuts out about 90% of sunlight, reducing the polyphenols in the young buds and leaves, reducing the bitterness. This process boosts the amount of chlorophyll in the leaf, which gives the tea its brilliant green colour and packing it full of antioxidants.
This shading process also results in more L-Theanine - a wonderful amino acid with calming properties that gives you that invigorating alertness, clarity of mind and ultimate relaxation after a good cuppa, which works in perfect harmony with Matcha's slow release energy, the natural caffeine kick.
The newest buds of the shade grown tea plants are hand-picked and then steamed which creates a sweet and vegetal flavour profile.
Instead of being rolled, shaped and dried like traditional green tea leaves, the leaves destined to become Matcha are laid flat to dry, before being ground into a fine powder. Grinding the leaves into Matcha is a slow process. Just grinding the green tea leaves is so labour-intensive, that it takes 1 hour to make 30g of matcha.
What are the benefits of drinking it?
Once the Matcha reaches our cup we actually consume the tea leaf, instead of simply infusing it and removing the leaves, this means that Matcha packs a punch like no other, you are ingesting all the goodness. There are endless benefits. Matcha really is a super hero!!

What about the level of caffeine?
There is approximately 30mg per 1g serving of Matcha. A regular cup of coffee typically contains 70-75mg of caffeine.
How do I use it?
Matcha powder is traditionally whisked with hot water to make a rich and frothy green tea
1g (half a level teaspoon) per serving.
For an intense Matcha Shot: Add 1g matcha to your cup, whisk the matcha tea in fresh 20-80 degree water until no residue is left in the cup and a vibrant yet dark green colour appears.
For a Matcha Latte: Add 1g of matcha green tea to your cup, add a little hot water and whisk until smooth, topped with a steamed milk of your choice - coconut milk /hemp milk /soya milk the choice is yours!
