About Brazilian Mate

Yerba (herb /Spanish) Mate (beverage) is a shrub like leaf, infused and consumed as a hot drink with origins in Brazil later spreading cultivation to Argentina, Chile, Peru and Bolivia. It's south America's popular choice of hot drink, their equivalent of everyday tea. We love it but couldn’t help tinker with it. The addition of orange and liquorice sweetens it to give a slight hint of chocolate orange.

Ingredients

Brazilian Mate Tea, Liquorice, orange peel, marigold flowers & flavouring.

How we like it

Infuse one tea measure per pot, use freshly drawn boiled water. allowed to cool to a temperature of 70–80 °C, hot but not boiling - brew for 2-5 minutes… In Brazil this infusion is prepared by filling a container, typically a gourd, up to three-quarters full with dry leaves of the mate plant, and filling it up with water at a temperature of 70–80 °C, hot but not boiling. Sugar may or may not be added; and the mate may be prepared with cold water
